Inspiring Leadership for Over 45 Years
IMS Lifetime Achievement Award - Dr. Vijay Govindarajan

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - DR. VIJAY GOVINDARAJAN

11.8.22 - The Institute for Management Studies (IMS) announced Professor Vijay Govindarajan as the recipient of its 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award, for his contributions to the fields of strategy and innovation. Dr. Govindarajan is the Coxe Distinguished Professor at Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. "Dr. Govindarajan has excelled in every one of the dimensions that the IMS Lifetime Achievement Award considers - perfectly embodying the idea of a scholar-educator-practitioner," stated Charles Good, Institute for Management Studies president.
IMS undergoes an extensive vetting process to determine the recipient of its coveted Lifetime Achievement Award, which has only been handed out four other times throughout IMS's nearly 50-year history. The process includes assessing a thought leader's impact on their respective field as demonstrated by their research, teaching, and consulting. Other recipients of the IMS lifetime achievement award are Dr. Russell Ackoff for his work in systems thinking; Dr. Marshall Goldsmith for his achievements in leadership development and coaching; Dr. Beverly Kaye for her contributions to career development; and Dr. David Ulrich for his research and writing which earned him the title "the Father of Modern HR."
Dr. Govindarajan is a best-selling author, co-author, or contributor to over 14 books on leadership and innovation, including The Three-Box Solution: A Strategy for Leading Innovation, and Reverse Innovation: Create Far from Home, Win Everywhere. He is one of the rare academics who has published extensively in both academic and practitioner journals. His work has been cited over 45,000 times. "I am very grateful to receive this award," said Professor Govindarajan. "IMS has a 50-year history of working with the brightest minds in executive education. I am truly honored to be included on their ranking of top educators." Dr. Govindarajan will be accepting his reward during a one-hour live stream event for the Institute for Management Studies to be held on December 14th at 11am Eastern.
IMS Lifetime Achievement Award - Dr. Dave Ulrich

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - DR. DAVE ULRICH

03.16.21 - Dr. Dave Ulrich received the IMS 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to organizational development and the HR profession. It is the fourth time in its 47-year history that IMS has presented the award: the first to Dr. Russell Ackoff for his work in systems thinking; the second to Dr. Marshall Goldsmith for his achievements in leadership development and coaching; and the third, last year, to Dr. Beverly Kaye for her contributions to career development.
Dr. Ulrich has authored or co-authored over 30 books and 200 articles on leadership and organizational design. His research and writing have earned him the title "the Father of Modern HR." Dave Ulrich is ranked as the #1 management guru by Business Week and was profiled by Fast Company as one of the world's top 10 creative people in business. He is listed as a top 5 coach in Forbes and recognized on Thinkers50 as one of the world's leading business thinkers.
"People are our greatest asset," said Dr. Ulrich. "Developing people to optimize their capacity is a strategic priority. Last year will go down in history as a year of unprecedented shock, change, and volatility. A year ago, business and HR leaders were encouraged to adapt to the 'future of work,' where they had to respond to rapid technology evolutions. Now, HR is center stage, needing to reinvent 'today's and tomorrow's work.' I am very honored that my work in this area is being recognized by IMS with this award."

THE IMS LEARNING JOURNEY

11.4.2019 - The Institute for Management Studies has long realized that learning was an ongoing process, not a single day event. Starting in 2020 IMS programs will better reflect that paradigm. IMS will be helping to deepen the learning and increase success in implementing the concepts that attendees have learned by building a stronger relationship between themselves and the IMS educator.
Thought-leaders will follow up with emails to participants, providing ongoing learning materials and ideas to help them overcome the forgetting curve. This will be followed up by a consultative, online discussion group approximately 30 days after the IMS program to review how concepts were implemented by attendees, what roadblocks might have to be overcome and what possible next steps the learners might take.
We feel that this process will encourage people to reflect on the ideas from the program and explore implementations strategies for themselves and others in their organization. For more information, please contact us.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - DR. BEVERLY KAYE

11.1.2019 - The Institute for Management Studies announced that Dr. Beverly Kaye will receive its lifetime achievement award for her contributions to the field of career development and employee engagement. It is only the third time that IMS has presented a lifetime achievement award – the first going to Dr. Russell Ackoff for his work in strategy and systems thinking and the second going to Dr. Marshall Goldsmith for his work in leadership development and coaching.
Dr. Beverly Kaye's contributions have not only positively influenced clients and industry colleagues but have facilitated respect for the learning and performance industry overall. She is the author or co-author of five books on engagement and development, which include the Wall Street Journal bestseller Love 'Em or Lose 'Em, Love It, Don't Leave it and Hello Stay Interviews Goodbye Talent Loss (all co-authored with Sharon Jordan Evans). Her seminal book on employee retention Help Them Grow or Watch them Go (co-authored with Julie Winkle Giulioni) was recently updated in a second edition which was released this past January by Berrett-Koehler.
"The reality of engagement and development continues to morph in response to the changing business landscape," said Beverly Kaye. "Developing people to optimize their capacity is a compelling and strategic priority. Providing managers and employees with practical tools to engage in those conversations has moved from being a nicety to a necessity. I am thrilled that my work in this area is being recognized by IMS with this award."
