THE IMS LEARNING JOURNEY
11.4.2019 - The Institute for Management Studies has long realized that learning was an ongoing process, not a single day event. Starting in 2020 IMS programs will better reflect that paradigm. IMS will be helping to deepen the learning and increase success in implementing the concepts that attendees have learned by building a stronger relationship between themselves and the IMS educator.
Thought-leaders will follow up with emails to participants, providing ongoing learning materials and ideas to help them overcome the forgetting curve.
This will be followed up by a consultative, online discussion group approximately 30 days after the IMS program to review how concepts were implemented by attendees, what roadblocks might have to be overcome and what possible next steps the learners might take.
We feel that this process will encourage people to reflect on the ideas from the program and explore implementations strategies for themselves and others in their organization. For more information, please contact us.
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - DR. BEVERLY KAYE
11.1.2019 - The Institute for Management Studies announced that Dr. Beverly Kaye will receive its lifetime achievement award for her contributions to the field of career development and employee engagement. It is only the third time that IMS has presented a lifetime achievement award – the first going to Dr. Russell Ackoff for his work in strategy and systems thinking and the second going to Dr. Marshall Goldsmith for his work in leadership development and coaching.
Dr. Beverly Kaye's contributions have not only positively influenced clients and industry colleagues but have facilitated respect for the learning and performance industry overall. She is the author or co-author of five books on engagement and development, which include the Wall Street Journal bestseller Love 'Em or Lose 'Em, Love It, Don't Leave it and Hello Stay Interviews Goodbye Talent Loss (all co-authored with Sharon Jordan Evans). Her best-selling book on alternative career paths Up is Not the Only Way Rethinking Career Mobility (coauthored by Lindy Williams, and Lynn Cowart - 2017) builds on decades of research and work in the field. Her seminal book on employee retention Help Them Grow or Watch them Go (co-authored with Julie Winkle Giulioni) was recently updated in a second edition which was released this past January by Berrett-Koehler.
"The reality of engagement and development continues to morph in response to the changing business landscape," said Beverly Kaye. "Developing people to optimize their capacity is a compelling and strategic priority. Providing managers and employees with practical tools to engage in those conversations has moved from being a nicety to a necessity. I am thrilled that my work in this area is being recognized by IMS with this award."
SELECT BUSINESS BOOKS!
10.21.2019 - IMS wants to make sure our members are always up to date on the most current research and writing. That's why we choose recent books from the IMS experts that we feel have made a significant impact in business strategy, human resources or employee performance and send them to you throughout the year. You can add the books to your business library or share them with senior executives inside of your organization. No matter how you use them, the books are free to all IMS members to enjoy.
The currently featured book is Help Them Grow or Watch Them Go, by Beverly Kaye and Julie Winkle Giulioni
Beverly Kaye, coauthor of the bestselling Love 'Em or Lose 'Em, and Julie Winkle Giulioni identify three broad types of conversations that will increase employees' awareness of their strengths, weaknesses, and interests; point out where their organization and their industry are headed; and help them pull all of that together to design their own up-to-the-minute, personalized career plans. Help Them Grow or Watch Them Go is filled with practical tips, guidelines, and templates, as well as nearly a hundred suggested conversation questions.

THE IMS VIRTUAL SUMMIT
06.21.2019 - The Institute for management Studies presented its first virtual summit. The online event ran from June 19th through the 21st and was open to all IMS members. For three hours each day on the 19th and 20th IMS presented 14 thought-leaders and HR experts from IMS member organizations to discuss trends in leadership development and their work in the field. The second day of the event started with special guest and ATD Lifetime Achievement recipient Dr. Beverly Kaye. Dr. Kaye spoke about her award-winning work in the field of employee development and provided a vision for what is on the horizon. Representatives from Nestle Purina, H&R Block and The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California talked about how they integrated the IMS programs into their internal development initiatives.
On June 21st IMS regional directors worked to plan 2020 IMS programs in their locations that would reflect the needs of their regional members.
The event was a tremendous success and we will have more virtual programs coming soon. In the meantime, videos from the IMS summit are being edited and will be available on the IMS Vimeo page at: https://vimeo.com/showcase/6224295
SHOW YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS!
06.01.2019 - IMS now provides a certificate of achievement for each participant of our day long events. The certificates also provides CPE credits for ongoing education. Many certificate recipients have already been posting pictures of themselves at events with their certificate on LinkedIn. One more way IMS helps to celebrate learning!
A NEW LOOK FOR IMS
05.01.2019 - The Institute for Management Studies has updated its look! We just launched a new IMS website that has an entirely new look and feel. The site makes it easier for our member companies to find and interact with IMS and our regional locations. There is more information on the expertise of our terrific thought-leaders to create a better understanding of what attendees will learn during their day with IMS. The new site explains the integration of award-winning microlearning from our sister company AthenaOnline and how IMS is delivering a blended learning solution that better supports long term development and the implementation of concepts that have been learned at IMS events.
We have also added a blog. From here the IMS thought-leaders will share new ideas every Monday with anyone visiting the site.
