Overview
This session will explore the impact of finance in decision making and in the development of strategic initiatives. Understanding the role of profitability, cash flow, risk, cost drivers, etc., in creating firm value will be emphasized. Also, significant emphasis will be placed on how the non-financial manager can utilize financial information through a teamwork approach to decision making. The role of cost drivers and strategic cost analysis in a Value Based Management system will also be discussed.

About Our Expert
Dr. Thomas Monahan
DR. THOMAS MONAHAN
Dr. Thomas Monahan is the John M. Cooney Professor of Accounting and former Dean of the Villanova University School of Business. He holds a degree in Economics from Hofstra University, a degree in Finance from Rutgers University and received his Ph.D. from Temple University, where he received the Arthur Young Distinguished Scholar Award. Dr. Monahan has been recognized for teaching excellence at both Villanova and LaSalle Universities. Prior to his work with universities, Dr. Monahan served as a financial analyst with Becton Dickinson and Company. He also is a CPA in New Jersey. He has published numerous articles on various topics including cash flow analysis, capital budgeting, inflation accounting, and strategic planning. Dr. Monahan has consulted for, and conducted programs for, over 50 major organizations around the world. His current clients include: Allied Waste, Exelon, 3M, Philips Electronics, Rohm & Haas and Sprint. Dr. Monahan serves on the Board of Directors of Ariba, Inc. and chairs its audit committee.
