SUPERBOSSES: HOW EXCEPTIONAL LEADERS MANAGE

Larry Ellison. Julian Robertson. Ralph Lauren. Robert Noyce. George Lucas. Miles Davis. And a dozen others. Business leaders and creative icons with tremendous track records who all have something else in common: they helped develop the best talent in their industries, who in turn helped them become the legendary successes they are today. Based on ten years of research and hundreds of interviews, Superbosses describes what these exceptional leaders did, and how they did it. In this IMS 30-Day Learning Journey program, Sydney will describe the "superboss playbook", the key management practices that separate the best bosses from the merely good ones, and the pathway to becoming a better leader yourself. LinkedIn Chairman Reid Hoffman calls it "a leadership guide for the Networked Age."

TOPICS COVERED

Most well-run businesses understand the importance of identifying high-potentials. The Superboss playbook - as delivered via this learning journey - can actually help you create high-potentials.
When you surround yourself with world-class talent, and create a culture where everyone strives to get better, you can't help but be more successful yourself. The superboss playbook enables you to do it.
In every industry we looked at, we found the key one or two people who had the biggest influence in the development of world-class talent. People like Tommy Frist at HCA, Ralph Lauren in fashion, Bill Walsh in the NFL, George Lucas in film and special effects, and Julian Robertson in hedge funds. And then we spent ten years interviewing hundreds of people to identify what made these people special. The superbosses program brings that rigor, relevance, and new insight.
Over the last ten years virtually every part of business has changed, from supply chain management to sales, service ops, and digital everything. But the one part that has changed the least is almost certainly the most important part - how businesses identify, motivate, build, and leverage leadership talent. Maybe it's time for a new approach.
In an era of disruption driven by globalization, the digital revolution, and AI (artificial intelligence), it's never been more risky to maintain a culture of the status quo. But how to change? The superboss playbook provides a blueprint for how to shift from big and slow to agile and adaptable.
