Most leadership development efforts gloss over, or skip altogether, the uncomfortable realities of corporate leadership... power & politics. Leaving new executives unprepared and unprotected. Executives are put into a role for a reason, to accomplish something. And they have the skill, drive, and ego to get it done. But their unwillingness or inability to play politics often results in finding themselves the victim of politics, driving many good leaders out of their roles and organizations.

Corporate politics get a bad rap (for good reason) but it in part of how companies operate. Being politically savvy is critical to success as an executive. Period, end of story, full stop. The options lies in HOW to play the game.

When good leaders engage in politics in a healthy and constructive manner, it can elevate the norms of the "political game" within the company and lessen the power of those who play politics in harmful ways.

Sarah Bodner, Ph.D. is a coach, trusted advisor, and confidant to executives leading in changing environments. Her clients are Fortune 500 leaders in the fashion, chemical, medical, energy, banking, and airline industries. Dr Bodner well understands the pressure of leading an organization. As coach and confidant to senior leaders, she has the privilege of having a front row seat to their professional reality and viewpoint. That combined with her own experience as a senior leader has given her a deep understanding of the role that politics play in an executive’s success.

She is the creator of Developing the Lady Boss, A program targeted to male leaders that provides them with tools to support the development and career advancement of women leaders and high potentials. Her "superpower" is the ability to quickly sort through highly complex challenges with often conflicting and disparate stakeholder needs to identify the root issues and find a path forward.

Dr. Bodner holds a PhD in Industrial / Organizational Psychology.
