Throughout history, leaders have naturally served as teachers, coaches and mentors. This session will introduce a wide range of teaching, coaching and mentoring methods that are applicable for many types of organizations. This is a highly interactive program with numerous opportunities for participants to adapt the content to their work situations. Participants will learn: (1) Benefits of and practices of highly effective teachers, coaches and mentors; (2) The importance of storytelling and how to leverage stories for teachable points; (3) 12 multi-purpose teaching and facilitating methods; (4) How to implement a peer coaching process; and (5) Different forms and best practices of effective mentoring.

DR. EDWARD BETOF

 
ED BETOF ED.D. is a Senior Fellow, Human Capital, at The Conference Board (TCB). In addition to serving as a Senior Fellow, he is the Program Director for TCB's Executive Council on Talent and Organization Development and has been the coach/facilitator for TCB's Global Executive Program. Dr. Betof is President of Betof Associates LLC, a consulting firm specializing in executive coaching, leadership and career development. From 2007 through 2010, Dr. Betof was a Senior Fellow and an Academic Director of Penn's Chief Learning Officer doctoral program. He currently is an Advisory Board member of this program, serves on dissertation committees and has taught in the program since its inception in 2007. Dr. Betof has worked with groups of school superintendents on their leadership effectiveness and change/transitions through Penn's School Study Councils. After nearly a 40 year corporate and educational leadership career, he retired in December, 2007 from BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) where he was the Worldwide Vice President of Talent Management and Chief Learning Officer. At BD, he established an award winning "Leaders as Teachers" process in an organization spanning five continents and fifty-one countries. Dr. Betof was an ASTD Board member from 2004-07. During this period, he also chaired the executive committee of The Conference Board's Council on Learning, Development and Organizational Performance. He is the author of Leaders as Teachers: Unlock the Teaching Potential of Your Company's Best and Brightest (2009) and co-author of Leaders as Teachers Action Guide (2014), Just Promoted: A 12 Month Roadmap for Success in Your New Leadership Role (1992, 2010). He has authored or co-authored several dozen articles, manuals and guides. Dr. Betof received his Doctorate from Temple University in 1976.
